The news today is not good for transgender folks. Their rights are under constant attack. Further, at this point it appears that, along with immigrants, they are the main focus of attacks from the administration. While I can’t directly affect what the administration is doing, I can provide a list of resources for transgender people experiencing discrimination. I hope that folks find these mutual aid, direct action, and charity links useful resources for transgender folks.
Hormone Therapy Harm Reduction:
Healthcare, Online and International: While ideally every person on hormone treatments should have access to a doctor and to one-use needles, if that doesn’t apply in your case, people have found this link and this link useful. Always remember that DIY has significant risks and is not recommended. If you DIY, you’re putting yourself in danger.
Medical Resources for Transgender Folks:
A4TE’S Trans Health Project helps transgender people get healthcare they’re legally entitled to. Healthcare, Legal Services, Advocacy. They also provide a handy list of gender centers where you might be able to get the help you need.
Organizations Funding Individual Transgender Folk:
Gender Bands: Support for transition related costs and other resources for transgender folks. Healthcare, Clothing, Individual Grants, Advocacy. US States, US territories, Canada, and Mexico. They provide assistance for transgender people in the United States and its territories, Canada, and Mexico. Once a year through the months of October and November, interested people can apply for grants. They also run Utah’s Trans Pride event in Provo, Utah.
Iowa Trans Mutual Aid Fund: Provides small grants to help transgender people in Iowa access gender-affirming care. Healthcare, Individual Grants, Iowa. While this organization is limited only to Iowa, it uses a model that can be copied elsewhere.
Point of Pride: Also provides individual grants for gender affirming care. Individual Grants, Clothing, US-Wide, International (some services). Their grants are available across the United States, and their free binder and shape wear program is available internationally. You can also sign up to send affirming letters to trans folk through them.
STRIVE: Socialist Trans Initiative: Housing, Medical, Individual Grants, Transportation. Offers transitional housing, other housing resources, HRT prescription coverage, minor medical co-pays, food, transportation, referrals and other resources for transgender people in Escambia county, Florida, “and surrounding”.
Trans Love Fund: Individual Grants, South Carolina. A project of We Are Family. Operating in and providing services for people in South Carolina, the Trans Love Fund provides microgrants on a monthly cycle to transgender folks with pressing needs.
Pink Haven Coalition: Relocation, Medical Assistance, Referrals for Individual Grants. Already mentioned last month, Pink Haven is the effort of several allied organizations in the United States northeast area to provide assistance in moving, connecting people to mutual aid, and helping with access to medical treatment. If you want to reach them, use the contact form on their website.
Legal Resources:
The Transgender Law Center Legal Assistance, US States: is a transgender people owned legal organization that helps combat hate crimes. Their legal information help desk can answer question to help keep you safe and secure.
Advocacy, News, and Information:
Teen Vogue is an incredibly useful source of information specifically geared to teens and young adults. Information, Advocacy, News, International. The linked article motivates trans youth with examples from history. This link gives practical advice for trans youth on how to protect themselves and their rights from the Trump administration.
How Can You Support Your Trans Colleagues Advocacy, Information, International. is a document with information for allies, accomplices, and coworkers. It helps those supporters learn fundamental principles of making sure the workplace is inclusive of transgender individuals.
Project Rainbow in Utah provides visibility and advocacy for LGBTQ folk including transgender folk in Utah. Education, Advocacy. They operate predominantly in the Provo area.
